La tessiture de la voix d’un chanteur ou d'une chanteuse est déterminée par les notes extrêmes qu’il ou elle est capable d'émettre facilement, vers le grave et l'aigu. La tessiture et le timbre servent à classifier les voix par catégories.

Pour les voix de femmes, on distingue ordinairement les suivantes :
